P.E at Greens Norton Primary School
All children have two PE lessons a week, meeting the National Curriculum guidelines of a minimum of two hours per week. We use Get Set PE to deliver a wide range of engaging and challenging lessons, both indoor and outdoor. Our carefully planned Long Term Plans ensure that children experience a range of sports whilst developing fundamental movements skills that can be applied to all physical activity. The skills and knowledge that our children acquire, builds progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6. Children are assessed at the end of each unit, against the taught skills and success criteria. Our approach to PE also aims to develop the whole child by having clear social, emotional and thinking objectives linked to each lesson. We believe that this paves the way for developing our children’s physical literacy skills and becoming lifelong lovers of physical activity. Our PE offer is also enhanced through the use of outside coaches who deliver and support our staff in delivering high quality and varied PE.
Throughout the year, we participate in a variety of sporting events across the trust and with other schools in the local area. Many of these are through our strong links with Sponne School. We are also lucky to have the Young Leaders from Sponne visit us a number of times a year, to work with our children, again ensuring they have a range of opportunities to access and enjoy physical activity.
