Online Safety
As a school we take online safety very seriously. Pupils are encouraged to make use of online tools and apps, but are taught from Reception through to Year six how to keep themselves safe when using the internet.
However, the vast majority of children access the internet through social media, online gaming and a multitude of apps more at home than they do at school.
The online world is here to stay and our children need to become experts in its use. However, as adults at home and at school, it is our responsibility to do our best to help keep children safe online.
We send a monthly newsletter to parents and carers with the most up to date advice and support for parents.
At school children are expected to keep our Online Safety Rules
- We use the internet to help us learn and we know who to ask if we need help.
- We make sure that an adult always knows when we are online.
- We never give out passwords or personal information (like our full name, school or address).
- We never post photographs or videos without permission and never include names with photographs.
- I know that people online are not reliable and may not be who they say they are.
- If we see anything on the Internet or on email that is scary or makes us feel uncomfortable, we know what to do.
- We send emails and messages that are polite and friendly.
- We will only email, chat to, or go on webcam with people that we know in real life, with permission from our teachers or parents.
- We never open emails or links from people we don’t know.
- We know that the rules are there to keep us safe and must not be broken.
- We know that we can go to www.thinkuknow.co.uk for help.
We use various resources in school to help teach the children about Online Safety, including resources which can be found on the Thinkuknow website.
In addition we endeavour to teach children to think critically when reading information online - not everything we see and read online is accurate or true.
