History
At Greens Norton, we aim to spark curiosity about the past and help our pupils develop a secure understanding of the people, events and changes that have shaped Britain and the wider world. Through our History curriculum, children build a chronological framework of knowledge and are encouraged to think like historians—asking questions, evaluating evidence and considering different perspectives.
From the early stages in EYFS, children begin to develop an awareness of time, change and continuity by exploring their own lives and familiar past events. As they move through school, pupils extend their knowledge of local, British and world history, making connections across time periods and deepening their understanding of cause and consequence.
We provide rich and engaging learning experiences that bring history to life—through storytelling, handling artefacts, visiting historical sites and using a range of sources. Our children are taught to reflect on how the past influences the present, to recognise its relevance, and to present their own interpretations with increasing confidence and accuracy.
Our aim is to help pupils develop a sense of identity and cultural understanding, as well as the critical thinking skills needed to make sense of the world around them.
