Computing

At Greens Norton, our high-quality computing curriculum equips pupils for the future by making them digitally resilient, literate and confident users of technology. As the digital world constantly evolves, we teach children to use technology safely, effectively and responsibly so they can apply it positively in their lives. The school aims for all pupils to enjoy computing and become competent in the skills they learn. Through fun and engaging lessons, the children express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.
We offer a well-planned, sequenced and progressive computing curriculum from Reception to Year 6, supported by Purple Mash to ensure all pupils achieve and enjoy learning. Teaching follows the National Curriculum, covering its three strands: computer science, information technology and digital literacy. Skills and knowledge are built on year by year, with clear progression both within and across year groups to develop pupils’ declarative and procedural knowledge. Our curriculum provides rich, hands-on and engaging experiences, as we understand that pupils learn most effectively when participating in practical experiences. It also encourages cross-curricular links with subjects like maths, science and music, and helps pupils embed and deepen their learning throughout their primary years.

Online Safety

At Greens Norton, online safety is a vital part of our curriculum, ensuring pupils learn to use the internet safely and responsibly. We follow the Education for a Connected World framework, covering eight key themes—self-image, online relationships, reputation, bullying, managing information, health and wellbeing, privacy and security and copyright. These themes are taught progressively across all year groups. Online safety is taught as a stand-alone subject, but it is also integrated with our PSHE curriculum and reinforced during Internet Safety Day through engaging, discussion-based lessons. This approach ensures pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe online in a well-structured and thoughtful way.
