Being a Church School

As a Church School we have a Christian ethos and Christian values that run through the life of the school. We are pleased to have very strong links with St Bartholomew’s Church in the village and the Tove benefice ministry team.

Our vision is embedded in the belief that every child and adult is known by and is special to God.

At Greens Norton CE Primary School, we aim to educate, inspire and nurture every child and adult member of our school community in a loving and inclusive Christian environment, so we have the confidence and skills to excel in our achievements and flourish as fair and kind children of God.

We encourage and support one another to be fair, be kind and trust in God. Micah 6:8

At the start of every school year we join the Sunday congregation in the Church for a special Family Praise service. Throughout the year children and their families are invited to participate in other services in Church. The children take on roles such as readings and prayers as well as helping to explore the theme of the service. The Children and Families Worker supports the children with this.

We regularly attend Church as a whole school for key Christian festivals and many of our families attend other services throughout the year, such as Christian Aid, Mothering Sunday, Carols by Candlelight. These services often include songs the children have learnt in school, enhancing the links between church and school.

Reverend Paula Challen visits our school regularly, and about once a month leads our Collective Worship assisted by the children (worship leaders). The children take pride in opening and closing our worship with a Trinitarian liturgical form, as we place the bible (God), the cross (Jesus) and light our candle (Holy Spirit).

The benefice Children and Families Worker, Sarah Barnett, also regularly visits school to do a variety of activities with various groups of children This includes supporting groups and whole classes with RE and reflection times.

Some school staff are involved in the life of the church and serve on the PCC.

Enriching our own lives and the lives of others

Be Fair, be kind and trust in God - Micah 6 v 8.

As we seek to achieve our vision that all members of our school community should excel in their achievements and flourish as children of God, we look for opportunities to enrich the experience of the children who attend Greens Norton CE Primary School. Often this is achieved through the school curriculum subjects and planned enrichment opportunities (see under Curriculum), but we recognise that we can go further. Below are examples of opportunities embraced by the adults and children of our school to look outwards and seek to give and enrich the lives of others.
