Day of Languages
On Tuesday 12th February we celebrated International Day of Languages in school. The day began continental style, with a breakfast of croissants and hot chocolate served by Year 6 pupils. Then a varied menu of activities was offered to children across the school. Children from Jupiter and Saturn classes helped Mrs Rea to make the Italian style lunch of pizza and ice-cream with a record number of children opting to have a hot lunch on this special day! Other children learnt some French songs and nursery rhymes and learnt about the Chinese New Year with Mrs Stobart.
Meanwhile children in Key Stage 2 played French games and tasted food from around the world. Miss Dalton taught all classes the Brazilian dance, the capiera based on martial arts. This dance is such fun I couldn't resist joining in!
The highlight of the day for the children was the World Cup football final where USA played Italy. Children from across Key Stage 2 were organised into mixed teams each representing a country. After two rounds 4 teams were eliminated but the remaining two teams were so evenly matched that the match was eventually declared a draw with both teams sharing the splendid trophy (made by Mrs Waite!).
Silverstone Centre
We currently have two groups from school attending the recently opened Silverstone Education Centre. This is a purpose built facility for encouraging learning in an exciting and well-equipped environment. The staff there are qualified to design and deliver tailor-made programmes to the groups we select. Children from Years 1 - 6 who have special abilities in Maths are attending for 3 days each across the term and children from Years 5 and 6 have been chosen to attend some fully-funded 'Playing for Success' sessions on Thursday evenings. There will be opportunities for parents to become involved towards the end of the programmes - details to follow.
Junior Librarian
We are currently trying to computerise our library lending system using this software that allows books to be scanned in and out of the library. This is not a difficult process but is rather time-consuming. If any parents/carers have any spare hours during the next few weeks we would be most grateful for any help in completing this task. Please contact the school office if you can help.
